Tartan week AND A NESS GIVEAWAY!!

Welcome to Tartan Week at My Happy Sewing Place!  In celebration of the 'mad for plaid' theme over at the Sew Weekly and the launch of the new Ness autumn/winter line (which is FABULOUS), I'm hosting a giveaway for £40 to spend in the Ness online store!!

Before we get to the details of the giveaway, I thought I would share with you my absolute favourites from the new line and how they might fit into my existing wardrobe (the new line is called Nessadoon: A wonderful highland romance-- I love it!)

I may have audibly giggled with delight when I saw the pencil skirts (called 'Alicia') in each of the three glorious plaids of the new season.  The tartan above is called 'Crush' and I love it in the pencil skirt (which has a cut little bow across the front and a box pleat in the back).  Notice that the bow is in teal?  I think it would go perfectly with my teal Pendrell blouse!  Also new this season are the adorable 'Beth' handbags!  I absolutely LOVE them! It's like Ness read my mind....Teal....and PURPLE...and BOWS....and PENCIL skirts....

My other favourite tartan this season from Ness is called 'Northern Lights' and it is a great mix of reds and browns with a hint of mauve and pink.  I am really loving this in their classic 'Dotty' jacket (I have this same jacket in a tartan from a couple of years ago and I wear it all the time!)  I also love the smaller wallets/purses that have the little bow at the front (called the 'Blush' purse--I *ahem* also have one of these in another tartan and I use it everyday!).  I think this jacket and purse could help my 39 steps sleeveless dress transition from summer to autumn/winter!

Another potential outfit involves a beautiful teal jumper/sweater called 'Callie'.  It's perfect for layering and transitioning from cooler to colder weather as it has cute little cap sleeves.  I would pair this with my white DuBarry blouse and my 'Mrs Peacock' pencil skirt!!

Another thing I love about Ness is their fair isle knitwear!  I have the perfect idea for taking my 'Raspberry Sorbet' dress into autumn:

It involves adding a 40's inspired fair isle sweater vest (called 'Dora') with matching gloves and hat!  Love, love, love these colours together!

Which combo do you like best for me?

I'm certainly swooning over most of their jackets particularly the "laura" but seeing how its coming into spring here in Oz, I'd have to choose the sienna Bag in Poppy, such an adorable satchel and great for carrying all my sewing projects around in :)

  15. Ok Debi! This is bad! Very, very bad! There are sooooo many unbelievably awesome things on that website! And now I'm dreaming of me, wearing a gorgeous Nadia Jacket in either Raspberry or Mood Indigo (although the Biscay bay is equally yumtastic!), with a scarf of my own making and perhaps an Alicia skirt in Crush peeking out the bottom.... with my favourite biker boots of course! Nadia is my favourite though!

  26. Ooh - what a lovely opportunity - and Sarah is right - the weather seems to be on fast-forward to October - time for wool and coats!

I particularly like the Nadia coat in navy - the read buttons and yellow lining tick all my primary colours boxes! The Nita dress is lovely too, and I must find myself a new purse - the Ella wallet is lots of fun! The zip's going on my current one and I keep flicking coins across the supermarket - oops! Nasty to be hit by, and pricey when they're pound coins too!

    ReplyDelete

I can't wait to have a good look. I love the Petal accessories, they would really brighten up any dull and boring winter outfit. The Beth bags are so cute, the bow just sets them off beautifully! Oh, how can I choose with such beautiful things? You're making this a very difficult task Debs!

As for now, I'm off to Facebook to do the same!! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. What an awesome give away Debi. Thank you! It's hard to pick but I love the Alicia skirt that you posted. My favorite has to be the Fion shoes. I love the non-traditional plaid. Now I'm on the prowl for some fun pink and purple plaid fabrics.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hmmm. I really like your blog. Thank you for the giveaway!

  64. I couldn't limit it to just one! I love so much of Ness' stuff, ever since we went to Scotland a few years ago and I picked up some of their purses and accessories. Here are just a few of my favorites from the site right now:
    - Agnes Bag
    - Krystal Bag
    - Alicia skirt

Seriously, their plaids are so gorgeous! As much as I love my Highland dancing plaids, it's nice to be able to wear some fun, funky color variations of the traditional designs.

And thanks for hosting this giveaway! I'm off to post about it on my facebook and twitter as well.

I love all of the wallets and purses and picking one would require some thinking.
I also like the Mays11 spring top - so cute.
And the Felicity flats - oh my.

  71. The first combo is my favorite for you : the pencil skirt, the purse and your pendrell blouse...

I went over at Ness and really like the Blush Beth bag and the Callie sweater, but I couldn't pick only one of the 2 colors!! Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I love, love, LOVE Ness stuff - I fell in love with them when on honeymoon with my beloved in beautiful Edinburgh :)

It would have to be the Maddy bag, for me - I'm going through quite a change in my lifestyle at the moment (I'm going to be a student again, rather than a 9-5er!) and something practical would be just the ticket, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Great giveaway. I love the Maddy bag, Felicity shoes and Bess coat. Perhaps not all at once though!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I haven't come across Ness before, but I'm madly in love with their bags. I think I could almost kill for a Chris bag, just because it's beautiful and a lady ALWAYS needs bags!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Oh wow. I saw the Ness shop when I was last in Edinburgh and it was a joyuous moment. I am a little bit in love with the Patience dress (http://www.nessbypost.com/p/Skirts/2374.htm) and the Callie cardigan is so cute (http://www.nessbypost.com/p/Knitwear/2354.htm). I've tweeted too! (@rosyjess)

    ReplyDelete
  78. I definitely love the tartan look and feel - but I am not a pink-and-blue person... So I was glad to discover that most items showed up in other colorways too, once you click on them!
    My favorites are:
    - the Nadia double-breasted coat in dark blue with red buttons
    - the Arren shoulderbag in red-and-tan tartan. Yay!

Thank you for introducing Ness :-)

  79. To be honest I adore pretty much all the Ness bags and the Ness shoes. I really like the Bess coat and the Florence bags. Although the Georgie boots are cute but not much use to be in this area of the world.

  80. I love the Dotty jacket in Northern Lights. Pick me! Pick me! Melissa B. from Portland, OR

    ReplyDelete
  81. Ohmygoodness! I haven't been a longtime reader, and my what a lovely discovery.. Ness is quite lovely. I think Tamsin AW11 is my favorite -- I love to wear vests when the weather gets cold. I just hate being so warm that I sweat in the wintertime, so I always dress to be the right temperature about 10 minutes into a brisk walk, which makes a nice warm vest a critical wardrobe piece when the weather turns cold (And I do mean cold -- I've lived through an entire Michigan winter in only a vest and some woolen sweaters!)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Could the Alicia skirt be any cuter? I'm hard pressed to pick a true favorite - I love every single option, but would go with the teal combination that you chose. Thanks for the opportunity!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Love the Florence bags, enthralled with the Dottie jacket, and smitten with the fair isle lines!
