What I'm working on: Coco inspired blouse

If you haven't heard already the theme for the Sew Weekly this week is 'Coco Chanel'.  Have a look at the lovely creations so far and add your own Coco-inspired outfit!

For the theme, I am working on a DuBarry pattern blouse (as part of my Sewing Through the Decades Challenge) from 1943:

If you recognize this pattern, it's because I've sewn up view 2A (minus the pocket) before:

Now for the 'Coco' inspired bit....I'm making this blouse in a white silk taffeta!

Nothing says Coco Chanel to me more than the basic white blouse (and a white blouse that drapes really well).  I wanted a long-sleeved version that had great (but not overly dramatic) draping sleeves.  I think the pattern fits the bill perfectly!

Are you going to sew something 'Coco Chanel' inspired this week?  What style of hers do you like best?

  1. White silk taffeta = luscious!! Oh, my! Blouse decadence! I do have Coco-inspired items planned for later on. A nice LBD and a bateau neck black and white stripe knit top.

  6. It would look even more Chanel if you accented it with something black! White taffeta, yum! Sounds absolutely luxurious! Ever since I got Couture Techniques by Claire Shaeffer I've wanted to make a suit from boucle and sew it just as they do by quilting the lining and even adding a gold chain at the hem of the jacket. Can't wait to see the progress!

  9. That will look beautiful in that lovely fabric- really classy. I LOVE the floral blouse that you made of the 2A blouse- so cute! I love the cut and style of it- just gorgeous :) And like Miss 1940, I too am interested in what to look for and where when it comes to vintage patterns. I'm a bit confused about the differences in sizing (I'm a size 10 to 12 Australian in today's sizing), and is it difficult to scale up sizes if the pattern is a smaller make? :)
